Work to Strengthen Agriculture Sector and Implement Farmer Welfare Schemes on Ground …

Efforts to strengthen the agriculture sector and ensure effective implementation of farmer welfare schemes on the ground have gained momentum across India, with governments emphasizing last-mile delivery and accountability.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently emphasised that the effective implementation of schemes at the ground level is the government’s top priority, directing officials to closely monitor progress and ensure that benefits reach every eligible farmer. During a review meeting, he highlighted the need for crop diversification, soil testing, and water conservation measures to enhance farm productivity and sustainability.

At the state level, initiatives are being aligned with this goal. In Madhya Pradesh, a dedicated workshop under “Farmers Welfare Year 2026” brought together ministers and legislators, urging them to engage directly with farmers and spread awareness about welfare schemes and development programmes.

Digital transformation is also playing a crucial role. Uttar Pradesh has geo-referenced over 95,000 villages through a digital crop survey, enabling the better identification of beneficiaries and the smoother delivery of schemes like PM-Kisan. This integration of technology is improving transparency and governance in agriculture.

Meanwhile, direct financial support continues to be a key pillar. States like Rajasthan have transferred thousands of crores directly into farmers’ accounts under central schemes, ensuring timely assistance and reducing leakages.

Officials note that a coordinated approach—combining technology, awareness campaigns, and financial support—is essential to strengthen the agriculture sector. The focus remains on boosting farmer incomes, ensuring sustainability, and translating policy decisions into tangible benefits at the grassroots level.
